Predators of the soul
Predators of the soul
Most students enjoy a good horror movie; sadly, the horror films that they have grown with have a serious problem; they are not horror films but murder massacres. In these films, the assassin will raise from “the dead” at least 7-15 times, the “bad guy” or more rather “bad thing” will suffer being electrocuted, butchered, shot, stabbed, hung, ran over, burned, decapitated, drowned and still will go on and on like a pink bunny that we have all come to love and hate.
Some of these movies have “basis” on urban legends which are tales told from person to person in some sort of a creepy gossip, the more gore the better; long gone are the days when the juicy gossip meant speaking of this or that person who “looked” at other one in a “funny” way. But when it comes to their own life, in general students are very superstitious.
It is frequent that young girls go online seeking for the “right love spell” that will guarantee them that this particular person (man or woman) will love them if not forever, at least until the end of the year or until that important celebration where everyone who is anyone will attend with a date. But young men are not different, though their approach might be more direct and will not doubt on using dangerous potions, powders and even chemicals in the form of medications to achieve their goals.
Nonetheless, that is not the length of their superstitions, young adults, both men and women are more likely at this age to try and visit fortunetellers, witches, wizards, shamans, and other sort of mystical and magical people. If faith has not been well grounded on their life or if the faith that they were raised in presents them with a multitude of questions or controversy, it is likely that they will try to seek their own path.
It is at this fragile time where they are more susceptible of being entrapped by cults, sects and other forms of non conventional groups that, in turn, will cause them more harm than any other form of self destruction. The best course of action is for family and friends to talk to the students and discuss with them all the problems that they might be experiencing on this and other areas of the spirit and personal growth.
Letting them know that it is OK to question their faith just as long as they actually do research to try and understand or solve these questions should not cause them shame or grief and they should not let anyone tell them differently is the first step into protecting the young adults from such predators.
