When a family child decides to continue his or her schooling and receive a higher education, he or she might end up or be fully aware looking for a school, college or university that is far away from the family home. This is a very normal attitude in youngsters living in the United States.

But once they are faced with actually leaving home, a higher number will feel disoriented and longing their families and home, low grades and high depression are frequent on new comers, thus it is advisable to find a way to deal with depression and longing before it can be reflected on their grades and overall average.

The first thing that any student can do to prevent longing and all other depression feelings get a hold of his or her overall mind and studying oriented attitude is to maintain a healthy and often communication with the family home and its members.

Text messaging is a great way to maintain contact with little to no effort whatsoever; indeed computers and the internet has made video calls accessible for everyone; it is not always possible or recommended for a student to take his or her computer everywhere he or she might go and constantly connect to the wireless internet to communicate home.

Keep yourself busy, as much s possible, be creative an constructive. Making friends is not an easy task when you are new, especially if you are not looking to do mischievous or illegal acts. Enroll in the campus chess club or athletic club; you will be making friends and keeping yourself active; this is the best time to make life long friendships but at the same time it is important to make fruitful friendships; friends that are vice clean are better than friend even with “light” vice.

Program and schedule your activities for the next time you are back home. Regardless if you spend weekends at home or if you study at a further distances, take time to make plans and schedules as to what are you going to do, people to visit and friends to meet. Yet despite how enticing it might be to devote your entire stay for visiting places, friends and outside family; make sure you spend quality time with your inner family.

And take a little piece of home with you. Change it every time you go back. A dirty comforter, an instant photograph, the cookies your mom or your sister made for you… All this things will help provide you with a sensorial fulfillment of home and loved ones…Yes, even the dog.
