Can I take my pet with me?

When you are moving to a new school to continue and probably finish your education, chances are that you are also “moving” away from home; this can be a pretty solitaire moment for any student that is used to having his or her parents and whole family nearby. In most cases, the longing for the home can be severe and in some, it is so much that the student ends up in a serious depressive state that requires medical attention.

Of course, things are different if there is a chance for you to take something from your family home into the boarding room that you will have at the new school, regardless if it is in a dorm, a frat house or even a shared apartment. The logical thing is to ask for a pet. But there are other things to consider before even thinking of taking your pet with you to this new stage in your life.

Naturally you love your pet and in most cases, it is not a pet but a friend and a confident; but being the soul that you love so dearly you need to consider on his or her wellbeing before your own.

Will you be able to provide him/her with space, company and his/her usual lifestyle? Naturally, you will not be able to do so, mainly because you will be too busy adjusting yourself to keep track and try and make him/her adjust as well. It does not matter if you are referring to a fish, a cat, a bird or even a dog or any type of pet your might have that requires feeding, watering, cleaning and/or walking.

However, it is understandable that you feel lost and alone in this new stage. Taking your dog with you as if you were living inside a movie is not acceptable in a human way nor is it advisable and in most cases, it is illegal. Nevertheless, you can take a plant or two; make sure that the plants are resistant to draughts and are suitable for a half shady place this way you can have something from home that endures your activities and still warms up your heart.

A plant that is a gift from your family will certainly have the same effect than having a pet with you. As you see it grow and bloom, you will feel the warmth of your heart increase even if there is no direct interaction as it would happen with a pet.
